Summary Writing: Remember A Summary is a brief restatement of of the central idea(s) and most important details in a text. Readers summarize what they read to remember the most important information in a text. A summary does not include the reader's opinions or evaluation of the text, it is merely the most important facts and central idea(s).
Have the students take out a piece of paper and fold it into thirds like a burrito. Using the Beetle Text have them complete the Four-Step Summary Paragraph on their paper shown Below:
Then have them take out another sheet of paper to complete step four using their IVF topic sentence and fact outline from the Beetle Text. Here is an example of what a summary should look like using the Brave New World Example:
