There are many airports in Poland, but let's focus on four of them. These are the ones that serve the largest number of passengers and are most frequently used by low-cost airlines. They are:
Warsaw Modlin Airport (WMI)
Warsaw Chopin Airport (Okęcie) (WAW)
Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN)
Poznań Ławica Airport (POZ)
You can find specific information about the airports in the Travel Booklet.
Train transport works very well in Poland. From almost every Polish city, you can easily get to Bydgoszcz by train. Below you will find some information that may be helpful for your trip.
Important: Choose Bydgoszcz Główna as your final station.
Train Companies in Poland
PKP Intercity
These trains connect big and medium cities across Poland.
Train types you may see:
IC – InterCity
TLK – cheaper long‑distance trains
EIC / EIP – fast and more expensive (Pendolino)
Seat reservation is REQUIRED on all PKP Intercity trains. When buying your ticket, you choose a specific seat. Because of this, it is important to buy your ticket early. If all seats are sold out, you will not be able to board that train.
Regional trains
These trains operate shorter routes, usually inside one region or between neighboring regions.
Main companies:
POLREGIO
Arriva (very common around Bydgoszcz)
Koleje Mazowieckie
Seat reservation is NOT required. You just buy a ticket and sit anywhere.
How to buy a ticket?
In Poland, there are special student discounts for train tickets. Unfortunately, foreign students CANNOT use Polish student discounts. To use the discount, you must have a valid Polish student ID card. International student cards (ISIC) are NOT accepted for Polish railway discounts.
You must buy a regular (normal) ticket.
Buying tickets online (recommended)
Koleo app/website (English version available)
Works for both Intercity and regional trains
Shows connections clearly with platforms, tracks and all of the delays
The earliest you can buy the ticket is 30 days before travel
Buying tickets at the station
At the station you might get to know that all of the tickets are sold out (when it's about PKP). Buying at the station on the same day is risky for long‑distance trains.
You can buy tickets:
At ticket offices ("Kasa")
At ticket machines
