Our students have the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons with our teachers in conjunction with Swimming New Zealand in Term 1 in our school pool.
Aquatics is a key part of the New Zealand Curriculum and in a beach side suburb it's even more important that our children know how to stay safe.
This year, our teachers are working with Swimming New Zealand to teach our students about water survival and basic swimming techniques. In the sessions, the students will be grouped according to ability to provide each individual student with targeted skills.
Children arrive at school with varying levels of confidence in and around water. As with other curriculum areas, children are assessed and grouped according to their needs.
We are aware that a number of our students are competent swimmers and in some cases are in club swimming squads. These sessions will complement this, fine tuning their skills to allow them to be even more competitive.
There is the provision of 1-2-1 coaching for children with a physical disability.
