My name is John Torres and I am the Prevention Specialist at Nellie Coffman Middle School. I work alongside our wonderful counseling team guiding, preparing, and helping students prepare for their high school years and beyond. I was born and raised in Compton, California. Despite being raised in a city known for its drug abuse, and gang violence I turned out great. My parents migrated from Leon, Guanajuato to California with the hopes of providing a more prosperous future for their children. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my mother and father that any dream is attainable if you believe in yourself and put in the hard work needed to succeed. With the support of my parents'  I graduated high school and was able to attend the University of California, Irvine. I graduated UCI in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and have worked in public schools since. I love working with youth and helping them realize their potential. I firmly believe that anyone can be successful if they have the right support group and put in the hard work.  I have worked at Nellie Coffman Middle School since 2018. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you! Let us all prosper together!!
