My professional goal beyond induction is to continue developing as an inclusive and engaging science educator by strengthening my ability to design accessible, standards-aligned instruction for diverse learners, particularly students in special education. I aim to integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies, increase student engagement through interactive technology, and improve my ability to scaffold complex scientific concepts such as chemistry and biology for all learners.
To work toward this goal, I have:
Designed differentiated lessons and interactive notebooks tailored to 9th-and 10th-grade special education students.
Incorporated technology-based platforms such as Flocabulary, Blooket, and Boom Cards to reinforce key concepts.
Created scaffolded activities such as station rotations, hexagonal thinking tasks, and guided practice worksheets.
Collaborated with colleagues to share strategies and resources that support student engagement and comprehension.
Reflected on student data (e.g., STAR assessments) to adjust instruction and provide targeted support.
I will remain a connected educator by:
Participating in professional learning communities (PLCs) and collaborating with colleagues regularly
Attending professional development workshops focused on special education and science instruction
Engaging in online educator communities and resource-sharing platforms
Continuing to explore and implement new educational technologies
Reflecting on my teaching practice and seeking feedback to improve student outcomes
I remain passionate about teaching by focusing on the impact I have on my students and continuously finding ways to make learning meaningful, engaging, and accessible. Working with high school special education students reminds me daily that growth looks different for every learner, and celebrating those small victories keeps me motivated and inspired.
One way I maintain my passion is by designing interactive and engaging lessons that connect to students’ interests. Using tools like Flocabulary, Blooket, and Boom Cards allows me to bring energy and creativity into the classroom. When students are excited to participate, it reinforces my own enthusiasm for teaching.
I also stay passionate by continuing to grow professionally. I seek out new strategies, collaborate with colleagues, and reflect on my teaching practices to improve student outcomes. Trying new approaches—such as hands-on labs, station rotations, and interactive activities—keeps my teaching fresh and dynamic.
Building strong relationships with my students is another key factor. Taking the time to understand their needs, interests, and challenges helps create a positive classroom environment where students feel supported. Seeing students gain confidence and succeed, even in small ways, is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
Finally, I remind myself of my purpose as an educator: to make learning accessible and meaningful for all students. By focusing on student growth, staying creative, and continuing to learn alongside my students, I am able to maintain my passion and commitment to teaching.
New teachers should focus on building strong relationships with students, as this is the foundation for engagement and learning. It is also important to start with clear routines and expectations, while remaining flexible to meet students’ needs. Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and technology tools can make lessons more accessible and engaging. Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for support—collaboration with colleagues is essential for growth and success.
