Back to the World Education Abroad Fair Award

Information:

Students who attend the 2022 Penn State Education Abroad Fair at University Park will be automatically entered for a chance to win $500 towards a future Penn State-approved Education Abroad experience. Students who attend at least one event in the Education Abroad Fair series will automatically be entered and will be notified by Education Abroad staff via email if they have been selected. Those who attend eligible events at other campuses like the Penn State Altoona or Penn State Abington Education Abroad Fairs (full list coming soon!), will also be eligible for this award. Students will receive their award at the time of their Education Abroad experience. The award will appear on the student's Bursar bill for the term of the experience.

  • No additional application is required for this scholarship opportunity.

Eligibility | Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Students must have attended at least one Education Abroad Fair Series event or other eligible event and will be randomly selected by Education Abroad staff.

  • Students must be participating in an approved Penn State Education Abroad program (including embedded programs, virtual programs, internship programs, and research abroad programs).

  • Students at any Penn State campus are eligible.

Award Amount:

  • $500 per student

Back to the World Customized Programs Award

Information:

Students participating on a Penn State approved faculty-led freestanding or faculty-led embedded program will have the opportunity to earn a $500 scholarship toward their experience. This award will be based on both financial need and academic merit. Students will be selected by the Education Abroad scholarship committee.

  • Students participating on a faculty-led freestanding program will be notified if they have been selected for this award via email before they need to commit to their program. No additional application is necessary.

  • Students participating on a faculty-led embedded program will be notified if they have been selected for this award via email prior to the program start date. No additional application is necessary.

Eligibility | Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Students must have a FAFSA on file for the academic year in which they are studying abroad and have demonstrated financial need.

  • Students must be participating on an approved Penn State Education Abroad faculty-led freestanding or embedded program.

  • Students at any Penn State campus are eligible.

Award Amount:

  • $500 per student

Information:

Students participating on any Penn State approved education abroad program (including embedded programs, virtual programs, internship programs, and research abroad programs) will have the opportunity to earn a $1,000 scholarship toward their experience. Back to the World Passport Award

Information:

Students applying for any Penn State approved education abroad program (virtual-only programs are ineligible) will have the opportunity to opt-in to a chance to receive a free passport. Students applying to summer 2022 programs and beyond will have this opportunity and will be asked in their education abroad application whether or not they would like to opt-in. Students will be selected on a first come, first served basis and will be notified via email if they have been selected. Those selected will receive $150 towards a passport and will be invited to join information sessions where they will be guided through the process. Eligibility | Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Students must have an open application to an approved Penn State education abroad program OR opt in via the embedded programs scholarship application.

  • Students must be U.S. Citizens who do not already have a valid passport.

  • Students at any Penn State campus are encouraged to opt-in.

Award Amount:

  • $150 per student

Give Back to the World: Sustainability Scholars Program Award

Information:

Students interested in sustainable practices and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are encouraged to apply to this scholars program, which includes funding towards an approved Penn State education abroad experience. Students will need to apply to this program outside of their education abroad application, indicating how they plan to implement sustainable practices while abroad and upon returning "home". Those selected will participate in a series of sustainability related events, in partnership with Penn State's Sustainability Institute, including a symposium where they will present on their education abroad experience upon returning. The award will be applied at the time of the education abroad experience.

Eligibility | Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Students must have applied to the program and have been selected by the committee.

  • Students must complete all associated components to the scholars program.

  • Students must be participating on a Penn State approved education abroad program at the time they receive the award.

  • Students at any Penn State campus are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount:

  • $1,000 for embedded programs

  • $1,500 for summer programs

  • $2,000 for semester programs

Back to the World Writing and Video Contest Award - INACTIVE

Information:

This contest is currently inactive.

Penn State Education Abroad hosted a writing and video contest for students interested in studying abroad in any future term. Students will be selected and notified by the contest committee via email. The scholarship will be applied at the time of the student's education abroad program.

*Please note that students do not need to have an open application to an education abroad program at the time of the contest.

Eligibility | Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Students must submit a writing piece or short video to the contest and must have been selected as a winner by the contest committee.

  • Students must be participating on an approved Penn State Education Abroad program (including embedded programs, virtual programs, internship programs, and research abroad programs) to receive the award.

  • Students at any Penn State campus are encouraged to enter.

Award Amount:

  • First Place in each category: $1,500

  • Second Place in each category: $1,000
