Penn State Education Abroad

Increased Funding Opportunities for Education Abroad Experiences

About Back to the World

Penn State Global is pleased to announce the Back to the World Initiative. This initiative is intended to increase global engagement among students across the commonwealth through enhanced funding and outreach. Penn State Global has allocated a significant amount of funding towards students' involvement in education abroad experiences over the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years. Students from any campus participating on any type of approved Penn State education abroad program will have increased access to funding for their experience. To learn more about the specific scholarship and funding opportunities, please visit the Scholarships and Funding portion of this website.

Back to the World Initiative Highlights:

  • Penn State Global will be hosting several events in an effort to increase awareness of these opportunities as well as to encourage students to explore all of our global engagement offerings. Students are invited to participate in our Back to the World Education Abroad Fair, taking place in November 2022.

  • As part of the larger initiative, Penn State Global is also committed to increasing awareness and taking action as it relates to sustainability and global travel. Students interested in topics related to sustainability are encouraged to explore and apply for our Back to the World Sustainability Scholars program.

  • In an effort to continue supporting faculty who lead programs abroad, and to encourage students to take part in these programs, a portion of the funding has been allocated to support students participating in Penn State Education Abroad customized programs. To learn more about this initiative and student eligibility, please visit the Scholarships and Funding portion of this site.

  • Through Back to the World, students will have the opportunity to earn a free passport, facilitated by Education Abroad and our planned Passport Information Sessions.

These are just a few of the many planned events and funding opportunities related to the larger Back to the World initiative. We encourage you to take the time to explore this site and learn how you can spread the word and help get students Back to the World!
