Program philosophy
The educational philosophy guiding the program is rooted in progressivism, focusing on the holistic development of learners to prepare them for a happy and adaptable life in society. Learning is organized with the learner at the center, developing from their needs through problem-solving and independent inquiry. The program emphasizes outcome-based education and incorporates diverse learning activities (Active Learning), particularly problem-based learning, project-based learning, and service learning. The approach involves hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom, promoting sustainable learning. The curriculum also emphasizes three core values as follows:
1) Relevance – Emphasizes enabling learners to produce research or innovations aligned with global research trends in the field, responsive to local community needs, and bridging the gap between global and local contexts.
2) Criticality – Emphasizes research processes that reflect current knowledge about language and generate new questions about language, leading to the pursuit of new knowledge and/or the creation of innovations.
3) Practicality – Research practices that create positive changes in real-world environments, reflect language use in authentic contexts, and seek approaches to foster improvements.
Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs)
PLO 1 - Suggest policies, concepts, and practices to address language-related challenges in work and society using applied linguistics knowledge.
PLO 2 - Create new knowledge in applied linguistics by doing research.
PLO 3 - Disseminate applied linguistics knowledge in line with target groups in various contexts.
PLO 4 - Evaluate information and digital technology for correct use according to applied linguistics principles.
PLO 5 - Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills while working with others.
PLO 6 - Act according to and promote core standards of academic integrity and researchethics
