🐾 3rd Grade News – Friday, Sep 11th
*Life skill of the week- Help your child with ways to handle Frustration / Active Problem-Solving: Trying at least two strategies independently before coming to you the parent (in school the teacher).
💬 A Note from Your Teachers
We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year and are excited to share what your children have been learning. In math, we’ve finished Topic 1, which introduced rounding to hundreds place. At home you can encourage your child by estimating how much groceries cost or the time of day! Now we are leaping into Topic 2: Adding Three Digit Numbers. Please keep an eye out for the Family Letter and Activity in this week’s Friday Folder. It will show you how to support your child’s learning with this topic!
In literacy, students are making connections to the world! We have been ‘traveling’ around learning about the learning and access in other countries. We’re also practicing writing about our reading using the RACE format: (Restate the question, Answer it clearly, Cite evidence from the text, Explain your thinking). This week students composed and typed their first RACE paragraph!
In our geography unit, the 3rd graders have been learning about maps and the continents and oceans of the world. We are practicing identifying continents, oceans, north, east, south, and west directions, as well as the equator and prime meridian!
*Please review the CUBS Code booklet with your student, sign it, and return with your student next week if you haven't done so already.
We’d also like to remind you about Timnath Elementary’s Family Fun Night and Teacher Q&A TONIGHT! The Q&A will be held in classrooms from 4:00–5:00 PM in an open house format. Teachers will not be available after 5:00, so please come early if you have questions. From 4:30–7:00 PM, head to the field for games, activities, and some community fun! Remember to pack a picnic and lawn chairs! Before attending, please review the Back to School Slide Show we sent out last week and come prepared with any questions you’d like to ask.
At this time we are still looking for more volunteers, please use this LINK if you have time and are willing to help. 😊 Thank you to the families who have already signed up.
