This project was in collaboration with Timnath Middle-High School, a building for grades 6-12 which is still under construction as of November 2021.
Like Project Tiktok, I was paired up with only one other person. The goal for this project was to find a way to showcase the building's interior and the area's exterior to students and parents that could not come in for tours. Our solution; a tour video.
Before really getting started on anything, our entire class decided to take a tour of the under-construction building. This means we had to suit up properly, and since it was a very windy day, I was glad to be inside for that entire tour.
During the tour, I took many photos of the various areas we visited to get an idea of what I was going to be talking about in the video's script. I also got to speak personally to our clients during the tour, which cleared up some questions I had at the time.

A higher shot of the Learning Park from the top floor.
To the left, you'll see the initial notes I took from the first pitch we received of the project itself (from the clients directly).
Here, I wrote down the key captures. The struggle, or the main issues, goals/ultimate goal, any questions I had, and an overview of the project's focus. This note taking structure helps me determine what exactly the project was about when looking back for reference.
My initial thoughts were; how are we going to create a tour for a building that isn't finished yet? Maybe a virtual model of the building and an animated camera can go through while there's a voiceover playing? Or perhaps a side-by-side video, finished virtual model VS. the actual unfinished building.
A self-drawn Root Cause Analysis tree, where I identified the project's Stakeholders and why they care. For this project, Parents and Students ended up being our Stakeholders because Staff can tour the building while families cannot.
We did frequent reflections throughout this project in our free time. This one was directly after the initial pitch, where I reiterated main points, relevant prior knowledge, target audience, questions, and finally what I knew and needed to know regarding the project.
One of the main reasons I jumped on this project as quickly as I did was because of the VoiceOver experience opportunity.
Here, I had a few students, staff, and parents listen to my voice over examples/tests so that I could get a feel for what people liked to listen to. Overall, most of my feedback showed me that people had a leaning preference for calming, clear narration voices. But, for the final video, my clients notified me they wanted a more "student-esque" voice. AKA, I needed to tone down my professional voice.
To the left is the first storyboard I made for the project the first day of recruiting.
By recruiting, I mean reaching out to others around the building. At Futures Lab (where I take Design Thinking as a class), there are multiple pathways that many students take such as Aviation and Audio Production. These are the two pathways I had to reach out to, and Aviation was first.
This storyboard was whipped up the day of visiting the pathway's instructor, and it included an overview of the drone shots needed and an overview what was needed from the Aviator students.
From there, I went on to make a list of needs to further visualize what was needed for the project's final product.
Calendars were definitely one of the most important things I was able to utilize during this project.
The initial calendar was a printed one provided by our teacher, but the other two calendars were hand drawn by me. They helped me keep track of general progress and dates as well as with keeping the final due dates in mind.
Filming for the tour video was pushed back about 2 weeks, from the 8th of November to the 20th, which posed as possibly the largest roadblock in the project for the entire team.
The Project Management Board (window) helped a lot too, I was able to actually use it efficiently for this project unlike the last two projects.
Besides a tour video, I also created an animation for this project. Reason being, I had a ton of free time (2 weeks total) due to filming being pushed back. I felt the urge to do something at least while we faced a stalling in the process, so this was created.
To the left is a storyboard of the animation, titled "The Importance of Personas," an animation with the goal of illustrating how important the target audience is in this project and how connecting to them via personas can be utilized/is useful.
A calendar was also created for this animation so I could keep track of my progress and keep the final date in mind.
I was also planning on doing a voiceover for the animation, so this was the script I created.
This physical copy is the one I marked up to make sure I knew which section matched with which scene and so on.
I also made notes of any small changes or visual ques.
This is an animation that was created for the TMHS Project (Find in Design Thinking drop-downs..).
Its goal was to illustrate the importance of creating personas and connecting them to the project's specific situation to better understand why the stakeholder(s) care(s).
The orientation of this didn't want to cooperate so, essentially all you need to know is that this is the final script I worked with for the tour video. The markings I made were for tone influctions, emphasized words, and any breaths or pauses I needed to take during recording.
This is where I recorded and edited the final script of the tour video, located at Futures Lab and provided by the Audio Production pathway.
It was a nice experience being able to work with professional equipment, it's something I don't get to do often.
Finally, the final tour video! This was a joint effort between multiple people, including the project's clients who provided their logo art and a few shots of footage (both stills and drone footage).
Aside from that, I worked on the voiceover & final edits, Brady from Aviation worked on the initial edits and drone footage, and Lorenzo from Audio Production worked on the background music track.
This project was probably the best out of all the ones I completed and was a part of during Design Thinking.
I was able to utilize everything around me, including the human capitals of others in the building, to create a video our clients were happy with.
I was also paired with a challenging person, and I can proudly say I helped him succeed in the project.
The animation I created was also one of the biggest accomplishments of the project, done in 11 hours with a continuously sore back.
