What is Project Tiktok?
This Project was first answering a straight-forward question, "Should PSD or Individual Schools get a Tiktok, or no to both?" Fortunately, we've broadened the scope of the project from the first yes or no question to fit the Design Thinking process better. Since then, we've researched social medias that PSD already runs, other school's existing Tiktok pages, conducted interviews with the target audience and extras, and curated content ideas if (a) Tiktok page(s) were to exist.
Unlike the Boys & Girls Club project, our client for this project gave us a narrow scope to work with right off the bat. We were given general guidelines, a focus, and tasks to complete by the end of the project.
Using the root cause analysis tree template, my partner and I analyzed who the stakeholders were in the project. "Stakeholders" are essentially people who care about what this project was trying to tackle. Finding the root cause is figuring out why each of these stakeholders care.
From there, we chose one of the many stakeholders (process of elimination as a collective class/group) and chose a main root to focus on. The problem statement, what we needed in order to know we succeeded (success criteria), and people we possibly needed to engage with in order to meet that criteria (collaborators) were also written down.
This prototype illustrated my team's idea to entertain kids by allowing them to join in on Kahoot games from home.
"Mental Health Check-Ins" Content Idea
Storyboard (9-panel)
To the left, you'll see my content storyboard in Google Slides format. This illustrates my chosen content idea for when, and if, PSD creates a Tiktok Page for individual schools or at a district level.
The content idea was labeled "Mental Health Check-Ins"

My partner and I put together a concise final presentation for our final pitch. I decided to whip up drawings for each slide to spice up the visual aspect of the presentation the day before we presented, and I was happy with how the doodles turned out.
I redrew the Tiktok logo, the root cause analysis tree, and drew our Persona (Pietra) in a few poses as it related to the slides, as well as a generic teacher character for the final slide.
To the left, you'll see a solo reflection I wrote near the beginning of the project. Currently, Project Tiktok is now all wrapped up.
I finished this project glad that the PSD Board of Communications cared deeply about students' mental health. After our final presentation, both our client and another board member wanted to speak to me about my content idea. It was a refreshing couple of minutes, even if it was cut short by the time we had.
For me, as a student who cares a lot about mental-health-related topics, it was relieving to see that adults (especially those who had direct influence over students in my school district) also cared and were trying to think of ways to get through to students even younger than high-schoolers.
I think this project was also a good experience working in a smaller team of just me and one other person and was definitely a good challenge as well. Broadening the scope is not an easy feat, this project did show me that.
