The English Language Development (ELD) Department at Fort Collins High School welcomes emerging bilingual students from Newcomer level through Monitor 2, to proficient in English. The picture below shows how students progress through our ELD program at FCHS.
Boltz Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Poudre High School, and Fort Collins High School all have a newcomer program. The Newcomer program is designed for students who have no previous experience (or very limited previous experience) with English. They are supported with English and content area vocabulary to build up English skills before moving on to other classes. Newcomer students form great friendships with each other and become great support systems for one another! Our students have gone on field trips, started soccer clubs, and spent a lot of time with one another as they become bilingual students.
