Former Students

Mackenzie and Lea, Class of 2023

"By taking AVID, I was more prepared for college because students were encouraged to apply for scholarships and we were helped with understanding finances and how to manage personal expenses during college. I loved the sense of community and learning about things that will genuinely make an impact in my future."

"I recommend AVID to high schoolers because it offers valuable skills that are beneficial both academically and in life. The program provides support in areas like college preparation, study techniques, and communication, helping students thrive in their education and beyond. There's never a disadvantage to improving your skills or gaining new ones for college."

Emma, Class of 2023

"Without AVID and my amazing instructor/mentor Mrs. Deminiaw I would not have even thought to try to attend college. All of the skills I learned; introducing yourself to professors, sitting in front, going to office hours, note taking strategies, to-do lists, many organization/time management skills, etc helped me tremendously when adapting to college. I do not want to think how much I would have struggled if I did not already develop these skills in AVID."

CJ, Class of 2022

"I am able to take amazing notes, and I learned skills that help me study for all my tests. AVID really helped me focus on my school work and how to do it efficiently, and honestly I probably wouldn’t be in college if it wasn’t for AVID."

Alyssa, Class of 2021

"I recommend AVID to any students in high school because it does offer you with community and helps instill so many skills that you will need for college as well as in life. I know what it feels like being in high school and it kinda just feels like nothing is that important in high school and that everything that you’re learning now you won’t need in the future. However, avid is the one class in high school where I feel like I have carried on the skills that I learned from that class into every aspect of my life. I have never heard of one person saying that they regretted being an avid however, I have heard people who have regretted not being in avid. It truly is a special community that helps support you along every step of the way, and provide you with opportunities that you may have not had before. AVID will forever impact my life and have a special place in my heart."

Lixandro, Class of 2020

"It helped me prepare for applications for colleges  and how to form groups when we all had common homework problems. It also taught me how to organize myself with my homework and to make sure to keep my grades up so I could get into good universities. I recommend AVID to students in high school  because the process to apply to college can be scary, especially if your parents have no college background. It’s a class that motivates and make the path to college easier. Plus, it taught me how to solve my homework in a different method that will always be helpful whether in school or in the workplace."

Daniel, Class of 2020

"It gave me a glimpse into financial aid and taught me how to be a better student. It gave me that extra push that I needed to succeed. Honestly, I would not be in college if it weren’t for AVID. Every school should have an AVID program."

Jayden, Class of 2020

"AVID allowed me to discover the best fit for the next step in life after graduation. It honed my tutoring and public speaking skills. I use public speaking to brief 30+ people per day in my job as a weather forecaster. In time, I became a subject matter expert of many things and had to mentor other people below me on how to perform and excel in those areas."

Nemaway, Class of 2022

"AVID prepared me for the lifestyle I was entering, showing me different pathways to success whether that was learning how to use financial aid or even applying to colleges. I loved the community and, of course, Miranda."

Whitney, Class of 2020

"AVID gave me the resources I needed to prepare for college levels classes, effectively reassess my education plan, and reapply for FAFSA."

Daniel, Class of 2020

"AVID helped keep me organized when approaching college classes as well as making the admission process much easier. The main skills I retained in college were note taking and the ability to problem solve when difficult questions are proposed."
