Instructional Focus:
At PS 354 we believe that children learn best and teachers teach best when an environment is fully supportive of their social, emotional and academic needs. Our students learn in different ways on different days, so we give our children the opportunity to make meaning of their own learning by engaging in hands-on exploration, inquiry and discussions between their classmates and teachers. This year we are placing a greater emphasis on writing for all students to make their thinking evident across all content areas. We use on-going assessments to show learning progress. Questions are designed to meet individual needs to lead students to mastery of grade appropriate standards. Our work is guided by the Common Core Standards and the use of rubrics and checklists to hold all students to our high expectations of college and career readiness. We share the progress of our students with their families to be sure that we are supportive of additional learning and engagement at home.
PS 354 Student Oath
I will prepare for tomorrow by making the most of today.
I will listen, follow the rules and monitor my behavior because I am the leader of my own learning.
I will think creatively, try new things and do my best to complete my tasks independently.
I will ask questions, give thoughtful answers and discuss my ideas with my teachers and classmates.
I will respect myself and others by using kind words and making smart choices.
I know that I am supported.
I will make it to college and choose an exciting career because I won’t accept anything less.
