Phinn playing Number Battle from the Acing Math game collection!
Kindergarten mathematics is primarily about (1) counting, representing, comparing, adding, and subtracting with whole numbers, and (2) learning about measurement and shapes. Students work on counting to 100 by ones and by tens, counting forward from a given number, counting a set of up to 20 objects, and writing the numbers from 0 to 20. Kindergartners also work on comparing quantities, both with objects and by reading the written numerals. In units on geometry and measurement, kindergartners learn to identify shapes, build and draw shapes, and describe shapes in terms of their similarities, differences, parts and other attributes. By the end of kindergarten, students should be able to fluently add and subtract within 5.
Sometimes looking at charts from the classroom is all it takes to jog students' memories about what they've learned. Follow this link to see a collection of charts teachers use in our classrooms.
These videos of catchy songs, which we use in our kindergarten classrooms, can help kindergartners learn how to write numerals, and learn the meaning of the teen numbers. Have fun watching them at home and singing along!
