ELA Test Prep

We are currently preparing for the New York State Tests using all that we have learned and practiced over the whole year! Students will be drawing on their knowledge of fiction (characters, setting, problem, solution) and nonfiction (main idea and details) to read test passages and answer both multiple choice and written questions.

Additionally, we will be spending time reading from our book baggies to continue reading books that we love!

How to Support the Work at Home

• Spend time with your child reading a variety of texts: books, magazines, newspaper articles, etc.
• Encourage your child to use their nightly reading time to continue to read their fiction and nonfiction texts from their book baggies.
• Promote writing about reading on post-its or in their book lover's book. See chart below for ideas for supporting this work.

While your child is reading, ASK:

• Can you retell the part of the text you just read?
• What do you think will happen next? Why?
• How is your character feeling? How do you know?
• What kinds of books or series do you love?
