Wasatch Elementary is now a STEM School. I love teaching the STEM track! It is so much fun, creative, full of critical thinking, uses communication skills, and helps the students think outside the box. In fifth grade, we will be using block coding using Scratch, Code.org, Sphero robots, Finch robots, and Engineering Design. Every Friday the fifth-grade STEM teachers have dedicated 1 hour to working on STEM lessons.
Below are a few examples of what the student will interact with and grow their STEM skills with.
Using Scratch the students will be making a name tag that is interactive.
Click on the green flag and then click on each letter to see how I coded them to change and interact.
Students will do a similar activity that they have made their own.
Using Scratch, the students will be making an interactive display of my favorite things. Not only did I code each Sprite (aka character), I've added speaking and sound components and background scene changes.
Click on the green flag and then click on each Sprite to see how I coded them to change and interact.
Students will do a similar activity that they have made their own.
Our students will be using block coding using Code.org during their Computer specialty class 30 minutes through the week.
Sphero Bolt is a robot that is dedicated to fifth-grade. We will use block coding to code the robot and do many STEM projects that include Engineering Design, storytelling, Social Studies, and much more. Below are examples of a few lessons we will be using the Sphero Bolt.
Finch 2.0 is a robot that is a great introduction to block coding that is very interactive and can do many things. We will use block coding to code the robot. I love using the Finch to practice 2D shapes during our Geometry lessons.
