Wheeler High School is on a Block Schedule. That means students typically take 1 full credit or class from start to end each semester. Therefore, students won't be taking a class for the entire year, only one semester.
Each student will be scheduled for about 8 classes each year with about 4 classes each semester on average.
Some of our classes are offered in a year long format. These classes are scheduled as "Skinny Classes" and students will rotate between the same two classes all year.
Students are expected to complete an Elective Pathway while at Wheeler High School. A pathway is 3-4 levels of the same category of pathway.
Each year, teachers recommend students for their next level of academic classes. If students or parents have questions about the recommendation, please contact your specific counselor for further information.
Students are typically scheduled for 1 math, 1 science, 1 literature, and 1 history class each year in addition to 4 elective classes. Students choose their electives in the year prior and have two opportunities in the spring to change them. The deadline for schedule request changes for the 2020-2021 school year was in May 2021.
Once the final deadline passes, students are not able to make changes to their elective choices. This is because our overall master schedule is created based off the student's inital requests, so it is not built to support several changes. Please see schedule change information below for more information.
Cobb Virtual Academy and Georgia Virtual School are the two platforms students may be approved to take online classes at school during the school year.
Students MUST receive approval from their counselor in order to take classes online through one of these platforms. Students should make an appointment with their individual counselor for more information on the necessary steps.
Students must complete the Wheeler High School application for approval of the courses and register online for the correct course prior to the deadline each semester. The application and information can be recevied from the student's counselor. The program registration deadlines each semester can be found on each respective sites below:
