Personal Philosophy of Music Education and a Music Program

"Success is a Journey - not a Destination"

Children should be given opportunities to express themselves. A music education provides children with an appropriate outlet for their creativity through self-expression and collaboration. My goal for a music program is to foster this creativity and encourage personal success while working in a group setting. Students will be offered experiences for healthy, positive, and rewarding interactions with their peers. I believe that a music program can also provide unique and distinct methods of learning. By appealing to individual learning strengths, achievement is obtained by all students.

Accordingly, music education plays an important role in the development of each individual. As a teacher, I create a positive learning environment that will support a student's growth. They begin to mature in their knowledge of what they are capable of achieving individually and as a group. I feel that the value of music is in shaping an individuals abilities and character. This program reveals to students the joys and challenges that can occur by actively participating in music. I intend on teaching my students not only how to be successful in music, but also in life. Students develop musical proficiencies but also skills that will help them to become better students.

Finally, music teaches the importance of discipline, commitment, sensitivity, teamwork, and self-worth. I believe that making music encourages the ability to work together towards a common goal, builds a sense of responsibility to oneself and to the group, and brings about a sense of pride in accomplishments.

Personal Philosophy of Catholic Education

"And whomever welcomes a little child like this in my name, welcomes me" Matthew 18:5

An education should not only feed the mind but also enlighten and challenge the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. A Catholic education provide students with an opportunity to learn about and become active with the Catholic Church and faith. My goal is to create an environment of respect and serve as Christ taught to His disciples.

I believe that we are all called to share our gifts, extend love to others, and rechannel the talents we have been given from God and use them for the benefit of others. As a teacher, I look forward to using my gifts and talents to encourage and model a positive Christian attitude to my students through our daily interactions. This Christian attitude is a direct reflection of the teaching and living of the Gospel values. By instilling the importance of these values, I hope to inspire goodness and truth in my students.

Finally, I firmly believe that an Catholic education teaches and supports the worth and uniqueness of every individual as a person created in the image and likeness of God. Just like Christ did, we as teachers are asked to see the face of Christ in all of our students and to share the awareness of a living faith of Christianity.
