Jazz Band

The Bishop Smith CHS Jazz Band is a specialized ensemble that uses a select group of instruments. This band has a rhythm section (electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums) and a horn section (saxophones, trombones, and trumpets). Students that do not play these instruments in class are more than welcome to learn these (doubling). Due to the higher level of difficulty with rhythms and ranges, musicians need at least two years of playing experience or take private lessons outside of school. There are also opportunities within pieces for solos, both written or improvised.
