Outcomes/Competency Statements & Course Description

For help writing lesson outcomes and competency statements, view the information found here.

When writing a course description, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Create an engaging first sentence (do not start with "In this course...).
  • Use action verbs and state what learners will accomplish by the end of the course (refer to the general areas of competency for the expected outcomes).
  • Describe how this course relates to other courses within a program.
  • Remove any redundancies or obvious statements.
  • Keep it short, accurate, and to the point.

Text Editing

If you write your own course materials, we have professional copy-editors that can assist with editing and reviewing any written text.

Please email Stacey with any questions and she can set up a review of your written materials.

OERs

Examples of OER include: full courses, course modules, syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, lab and classroom activities, pedagogical materials, games, simulations, and many more resources contained in digital media collections from around the world.

You may freely use and reuse OER materials at no cost and without needing to ask permission. Unlike copyrighted resources, OERs have been authored or created by an individual or organization that chooses to retain few, if any, ownership rights.
