Day 13
Today was bittersweet because it served as another reminder that this project is starting to wind down. I thought I was going to be able to sleep in this morning, but I ended up having to give a tour to a prospective student around Proctor’s campus at 9 a.m. Thankfully, I was able to catch up on some sleep afterward before heading out for the day.
After lunch, I made my way over to Diane’s clinic. Since it was my first time being there during the afternoon shift, I caught the tail end of the elderly patients and then mostly worked around student patients dealing with sports-related injuries. Even though I enjoy seeing the younger athletes because I can relate more to their injuries and recovery process, I honestly think I enjoy talking with the older patients more. They usually have a lot more life experience, unique stories, and interesting conversations to share, which always makes the day more entertaining.
One of the patients I saw today was actually one of my friends, who fractured his ankle back in March. He is finally out of his cast and has started focusing on range of motion, muscle stabilization, and rebuilding strength. Today we did a lot of resistance band work along with balance exercises to help improve stability and confidence in the ankle again. It’s cool seeing someone go from being completely immobilized to finally starting to move normally again.
Diane also surprised Elsa and me by canceling our shoulder quiz, which was probably my favorite part of the day. After all the studying we’ve been doing, getting a little break was definitely appreciated. We also picked up the trifold board for our presentation on Wednesday, so tomorrow will probably be focused more on putting everything together and organizing all the information we’ve gathered throughout the project.
