PROCEDURES
PROCEDURES
Arrive on site and make observations about the site.
Fill the large white bucket with clear water from the pond making sure there is no leaves or dirt.
Using the D-ring net, sweep the bottom of the pond about 5 times back and forth, gathering a sample full of abiotic and biotic samples
After you have all your samples, flip your net and drop the samples into the large white bucket making sure to get all the materials into the bucket
Sift through the material and get rid of all the excess leaves, twigs, and other abiotic materials using your hands or the spoon.
Make sure to add water to the smallest Tupperware and add all the biotic specimens as you find them.
As you find new species, identify them using your ID sheets. Make sure to take lots of pictures and keep track of all the species you find.
When you finish sifting through the sample, return all organisms to the pond and pour what is left in the white bucket back into the pond.
