Keystone Species
A keystone species is a species that, if it were to be taken out of the ecosystem, it would drastically affect the lives of other biotic and abiotic organisms. After finally analyzing the pond, we ended up finding multiple examples of keystone species. Such as crayfish, larvae, snails, and tadpoles.
There are 5 types of Keystone Species;
-Keystone Predators
-Keystone Prey
-Keystone Modifiers
-Keystone Mutualists
-Keystone Hosts
INDICATOR SPECIES: An indicator species is an organism whose presence, absence, or abundance reflects specific environmental conditions. Indicator species can signal changes in the biological status of a particular ecosystem and can therefore be used as a proxy to diagnose the health of an ecosystem.
