Given the ABCDEE (abiotic, biotic, cyclic, diversity, energy and evolution) of the pond, our group came to the conclusion that Proctor Pond is indeed in good health. This year's abiotic tests have all yielded positive results: Neutral pH was 6.54, compared to the 6.43 of 2021, turbidity was 15.3 JTU, also a full 5JTU improvement from last year, phosphate and nitrate levels were as low as 2.04ppm and 0ppm, Although phosphate is slightly higher than last year, it is still very optimistic in general, and this can probably blamed by the sudden rain. Dissolved oxygen reached 8ppm, the highest since 2007, and is on the rise. Air and water temperatures of 54.7°F and 53.5°F were also normal compared to previous years. In addition, biological results were good, including a high Simpson diversity index of 10.67 (highest since 2018) and increasing abundance of indicator species.
My group's assumption about the overall health of the pond is that the pond is healthy. Although there are some indicators that are slightly LOW from previous years, the whole pond ecosystem will take time to rebuild due to the dredging. Most of the sample data indicates that there is a slow but steady increase in pond health on the biotic and abiotic level (since 2018).
