PHS Cross-Country 2024 Season Preview

The PHS cross-country season officially begins Monday, August 12, with practice from 3:30-5:30 pm, beginning in Coach Melick’s classroom.

The girls’ team is coming off a season that saw them place third in the conference and 11th at the Sectional meet. Individually, sophomore Bethany Sennett qualified for the IHSA State meet, where she placed 51st. Bethany Sennett will be returning to run this year.

One challenge for the girls this season will be the size of the team. As of this writing, Sennett is the only girl on the team. In order to factor in team scoring at meets, there needs to be five girls. Girls interested in joining the team should contact Coach Melick (jmelick@princeville326.org). No experience is necessary. We will work with you at your ability level.

The boys’ team is the returning conference champion and hopes to successfully defend its title this year.  In addition, the boys finished 8th at the Sectional meet last year, with the top six teams advancing to the State meet. The Princes have aspirations of being one of those six teams and qualifying for State this season. It’s a big goal, for sure, but a reasonable one. Their actions this summer have supported their goal. Nearly every single boy has trained harder and more consistently than they ever have before, putting themselves in the best position they can to succeed.

The cross-country team begins competition on Monday, August 26 at the Farmington Invite.
