SCIENCE INTENT STATEMENT -
At The Prince of Wales School we are passionate, curious and inquisitive Scientists.
We have designed an inspirational inclusive curriculum where all children are engaged through well planned, differentiated sessions that encourage questioning, experimentation and reasoning. Sessions are rich in Scientific language and focus on the six lines of Scientific enquiry; observing over time, classifying and grouping, pattern seeking, comparative and fair testing, research and problem solving. Sessions are reactive to the needs of the children so that misconceptions can be addressed.
Practical work is supported by a range of high quality resources that the children access independently or in collaborative groups. Science is linked to the real world so that the children grow up to respect and look after the planet.
There is a clear progression of Working Scientifically Skills and Knowledge and Understanding of all of the topics. At The Prince of Wales School we are creating learners who are able to plan and perform experiments, record and report their findings and evaluate their learning. All of the classes use our extensive outside area to grow their own plants and vegetables, look after the chickens, observe the wild habitats, bird watch and pond dip.
Year 3 are involved in Forest School with our trained Level 3 Forest School leader. Forest School offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

Every year we hold an #InspiredToLearn Science Week where all of the school are immersed in Science sessions linking to a specific topic (often supported by visiting specialists). Past topics have included Space, the Environment and the North Pole. See our 'Inspire and Dazzle Page' for example work.
