our work with sustrans -
The children and staff at the Prince of Wales School are very grateful for the longstanding support offered by Sustrans and our Sustrans officer Jonathan Dixon.
We have been supported in numerous ways over the last ten years.
Events like BIKE-IT-BREAKFAST and BLING-YOUR-BIKE and DR BIKE have encouraged children to cycle and scoot to school. We have successfully taken part in the annual Sustrans BIG PEDAL. This annual competition significantly boosted our numbers of parents and children cycling and scooting to school. We have dressed as superheroes with bikes and made circuits around and inside the school in a procession of 160 children. We have been dazzled by Stunt Display riders who Sustrans have invited along
In the classroom, Jonathan has led lessons on puncture repair, bicycle history and electricity generation with bikes, as well as practical cycling and scooting skills lessons in the playground. Our Year 4 children have been involved in mapping the local areas to plot the best walking and cycling zones. Sustrans have helped us to erect Bicycle Sheds and Scooter Storage Pods, they have provided bike pumps, prizes for competitions and trainer bikes for our Nursery and Reception classes.
All of this biking and scooting has had a beneficial impact in many way- healthy physical activity, enriching the curriculum.., and lots of fun!
All in all it has been quite a ride! (pun intended)
