DESIGN TECHNOLOGY IMPACT -

Assessment of children's learning in Design Technology is an ongoing monitoring of children's understanding, knowledge and skills by the class teacher, throughout lessons. This assessment is then used to inform planning as well as indicate what support and challenge is required by the children.

Design Technology is also monitored by the subject leader throughout the year in the form of book monitoring, looking at outcomes and pupil interviews to discuss their learning and understanding and establish the impact of the teaching taking place.

EYFS pupils' progress and attainment is tracked similarly against the early learning goals, telling us whether each individual child is below expected, at expected or above expected attainment for their age.  Elements of design, making and evaluation can be found in many areas of the Early Years Curriculum.

The design for learning approach is a methodology we aspire to across the curriculum.  By promoting independence, working to a set of criteria and evaluating work, the approach encourages children to work cooperatively with others and individually to solve problems.  Use of design for learning challenges will provide a framework of checkpoints to assess learning not only in design technology but also in themed weeks and through the wider curriculum.
