VR For Beginners

What is virtual reality?

Virtual reality (VR) is the term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment that can be explored and interacted with by a person. That person becomes part of this virtual world and can manipulate objects or perform a series of actions to determine what happens in the environment.

What is a VR headset?

A VR headset is a device that you wear over your eyes like a pair of goggles. It blocks out all external light and shows you an image on a high-definition screen in front of your eyes.

VR headsets track your head movement so that when you move your head to look around, your view in the virtual environment moves too. This allows you to be completely immersed in the virtual world.

Tips for beginners

Using VR for training is a very new concept, so if you've not used VR before, give yourself time to settle in. Allocate 30 minutes to get set up, read or watch the tutorials and load up a presentation to practice with. You'll need both your computer and headset initially while you get set up. Relax and play around to learn all the features before you start practicing for real.

First time using a VR headset?

Getting the hang of VR can be a little tricky at first, so if you are feeling confused or disoriented while getting started, this is completely normal! We recommend being seated until you get used to it.

Using new technology can be a lot to take in, so it may take 2 or 3 goes before it starts to feel familiar. We recommend re-reading the instructions between each initial attempt to help with this. Remember to take your time and look around slowly in all directions to get your bearings in each scenario
