Ovation VR is a virtual reality platform and software application that helps users improve their public speaking, communication, and language skills through AI-powered simulations and detailed feedback.
An account is required to use the Ovation application. Individual Ovation accounts are provisioned under the Zarb School organization. If you are using Ovation for coursework, and you have yet to receive an invitation to register under the organization, please speak to your professor. If you are not using Ovation for a class, a member of the lab team will assist you when you visit the lab.
Once you have received an invitation to register, please follow the instructions given to register your account.
Once your account has been activated, you can begin using Ovation. You can access your account through the web portal at https://app.prod.ovationvr.com/signin.
You have two platforms to use Ovation from: Windows Desktop App, and the Virtual Reality Headset. Both tools are available in the lab, and you have the option of selecting the platform that accommodates your comfort level. Please note: Ovation is currently not accessible from a MacOS Device.
Ovation allows you to upload supplementary materials to use during your session.
Text: Supported text formats are pdf, doc, docx, and txt.
Slides: Supported Slide Show file formats are Microsoft PowerPoint (ppt and pptx), PDF, and individual jpg or png images.
Slide Notes: If you import a PowerPoint file, the notes associated with each slide are imported as well. You can then edit or remove them on the web portal. If you instead import slides via PDF or images, you can manually add slide notes.
Board: Whiteboards and chalkboards are additional interactive tools in Ovation that you can use to embellish the delivery of your presentation. You can import jpg and png images for use on these boards.
Uploading Imports to Ovation: To upload your materials to your Ovation account, in your web portal navigate to the Imports Page. Click the blue Add Import button, choose the type of Import you are uploading (text, slides, board), then select the relevant file on your computer.
Viewing Your Imports in Ovation: Once you have uploaded an Import on the web portal, you can sign in to the Ovation app and load it from the Manage menu or the Imports tab in the Setup menu.
Once you have completed an exercise, a full analysis of your performance is generated and accessible on the Report menu. This report is also available for viewing and download on the Ovation web portal. A full report contains six main attributes.
Transcript: Your speech is recorded through the device. An audio and textual version of the transcript is available in your final report. This includes both responses from you and the Artificially Intelligent audience.
Factors: Factors are categories that the user is evaluated on. There are 5 displayed on a radar chart, with each Factor consisting of a label (e.g., Clarity), a rating (0-100), and the generated feedback text. The default Factors are: Clarity, Emotion, Reasoning, Depth, Structure, Engagement, Fluency.
Quotes: Quotes are specific highlighted portions of your speech. The feedback report will provide discrete feedback for these smaller sections.
Tips: three actionable tips are provided to the user to incorporate into their next recording.
Analytics: Analytics are the performance data captured during a recording, including Gaze (where you looked), Voice (what you said), and Hands (how you gestured).
