We are Legends

Ah, middle school.  A strange, wonderful, terrifying, crazy time for preteens and teens (and families!).  The time when puberty monsters pop out and social awkwardness shows up.  A time when everything is happening (to us, for us, about us) and nothing is happening, all at the same time, or so it seems.  The good news is that in the big picture of life, middle school is a just a blip on the radar.  That doesn’t mean it’s always easy, we know it isn’t.  Know that we're here to support you.

~ Ms. Drew and Ms. Newhouse

“The worst conversation adults can have with kids about race is no conversation at all,” says author Jemar Tisby. “Talking to kids about race needs to happen early, often, and honestly.”

We agree.  Many people are afraid to talk about "hard" things, and race is a hard topic for many.  It seems harder for many adults to talk about than for students, so sometimes students don't want to talk with an adult about how they are feeling/what they are experiencing.  We don't pretend to know all the answers and we don't always say the right thing (or even know what that right thing is) in every situation.  But we are good listeners.  And we do have a lot of resources we can point you to, if that's more helpful, to start the hard discussions that need to be happening.  We just want you to know we're here to support you in whatever way you need us to be.  Know that we know you are amazing, incredible, and have so much beauty to give this world.  Please reach out if you want to chat.

A Note from Your School Counselor

Hello students and families!  We are so excited to welcome our new 6th graders to Harriet Tubman Middle School (as well as all new to HTMS students), and to welcome back our returning 7th and 8th graders!

We hope you had a restful summer and are as excited as we are to get back into the school building.  Please refer to this website for information and tips regarding transitioning to middle school, transitioning to high school, health and wellness (it's so important to take care of ourselves!), information about HTMS clubs and activities, and many other resources.

We look forward to a great 2024-25 school year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Drew
