As a school counselor, my main goal is to ensure that school is meeting all the emotional needs of our students. I can do this by short-term individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance lessons. Your student may also benefit from a small group that supports a variety of students and needs- friendship skills, emotional regulation, ADHD learning strategies, divorce, grief, anxiety, etc. The classroom counseling lessons also cover a variety of topics from bullying, digital citizenship, gender expression and acceptance, diversity, empathy, kindness, recognizing our feelings and learning how to appropriately express them, classroom success skills, etc.
In accordance with the Portland Public School's School Counseling Program-
"The goal of the school counseling program is to provide ALL students with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to explore and achieve in academic, career/college, and personal/social areas. The counselor will work collaboratively with parents/guardians, family members, teachers, administration, community members and the students themselves to ensure that all students receive and practice the tools to reach their highest potential and gain confidence that they can attain their goals in all aspects of their lives.
We believe that ALL students...
- benefit from a collaborative, respectful relationship between teachers, counselors, administrators, caregivers and community members
- should feel that school is a safe environment to explore, question, and grow
- are unique and come in with individual strengths that positively contribute to the school community
- deserve to learn skills and information that will make them career and college ready"
