This analysis examines Unit 3 of the 5th Grade i-Ready Classroom Mathematics curriculum, titled “More Decimals and Fractions.” The focus of this Unit aligns with the major work of 5th grade that is outlined on Achieve the Core, and is part of a cohesive trajectory of skill development and conceptual understanding for the year. A discussion of the standards, progression of learning, analysis of the tasks and problems students will do in the unit, and equitable classroom practices highlighted in the curriculum are all part of this analysis.
II.a.ii.: Understand learning trajectories related to particular topics in mathematics (e.g., Common Core Standards Writing Team, 2013; Maloney & Confrey, 2013; Sarama & Clements, 2009) and use this knowledge to organize and deliver instruction that is developmentally appropriate and responsive to individual learners.
