Starting 9th grade right makes the path to graduation clearer
Earning all of your credit in 9th grade makes it more likely that you will graduate on time.
What do I need to graduate? Each student needs 24 credits and to meet all graduation requirements in order to graduate. Your 24 credits are made up of core classes and electives. To graduate, each student must earn:
4 English credits
3 Science credits
3 History credits
3 Math credits
2 World Language credits
1 CTE credit (Arts or vocational)
1 PE credit
1 Health credit
6 Elective credits
Graduation Requirements are:
Two CRLE's (Career related learning experiences)
Resume
My Plan Essay
In 9th grade your core classes are English, Physics, and Math. You will also take 9th Grade Inquiry or AVID, which will help you earn some of your graduation requirements. Most 9th grade students will also take PE, Health 1, and two electives of their choice. Each semester you have the ability to earn 0.5 credits per class. This adds up to 8 credits per year.
Start high school right with Leap into 9th Grade
The Leap into 9th Grade summer program prepares incoming ninth grade students to excel in high school by building a foundation for success before starting high school.
What is the curriculum?
Intelligence is an area of growth - developing your intelligence is not just retaining information, it involves embracing multiple ways of knowing and recognizing that there are different ways to approach problems. This stems from who you are, acknowledging that your lived experiences serve as valid forms of knowledge, and makes learning experiences unique to every individual.
Students learn how their brains change as they learn and how effective effort, productive persistence, skills of collaboration, and motivation can change their academic success. Students also learn how to manage their own engagement in schoolwork, thus taking responsibility for their own learning.
Students will participate in AVID skills like WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading): Focused note-taking, interactive notebooks, writing and vocabulary, and team-building activities.
Students discover their interests and learn about different opportunities available to them during high school and after high school. Students participate in hands-on activities related to career and technical education (CTE) programs, practice career and financial planning.

9th Grade Student Support Teams
All Franklin 9th graders are placed in Student Support Teams (SSTs). Each SST cohort has the same periods for English, Math, Physics, and 9th Grade Inquiry, together as a class community. SST teachers meet regularly to collaborate on how to best support each individual student in their cohort. This allows teachers to better help students make the transition from middle school to high school. Teachers use common academic strategies and restorative justice practices to create rigorous, safe, and collaborative classes. Our goal in the 9th grade year is to build community, while introducing students to college and career opportunities, and preparing them to reach graduation requirements. See the Important School Contacts link below for a complete list of SST teachers.
tells you who to talk to in the building, and where to find them, to get the best possible support for whatever you need.
