Financial aid is money to help you pay for college. Obviously that makes it crucial for students who need help paying for college (which is most students).
There are various forms of financial aid, here is a list and a short description for each:
Scholarships - money you can use to pay for college costs, you compete with other students to get it
Grants - money you can use to pay for college costs, if you qualify, apply and there are still funds available, you will receive it
Work-Study - working while in college
Loans - money you borrow to pay for college costs, you will have to pay it back with interest
