My name is Morgan McFadden, and I am honored to be a member of the Benson High School Counseling Team. A little about me. I am an LA native who moved to Portland ten years ago. Yes, that means I am a Dodger fan and a Lakers fan. However, game respects game. You gotta love Dame. I am also a strong believer that 90s rap was the best era. (Prove me wrong.) My first job in Portland Public Schools was as a teacher for Portland Evening Scholars. I taught with PES for five years and taught 9th - 12th grade English, as well as ESL.
I decided to move to counseling from teaching because I strongly believe in the power of relationships. Students need someone to listen to them and support their unique goals and aspirations. They also need someone who meets them where they are, acknowledges their personal strengths, and respects their family values. For me, counseling allows me to spend more time on building relationships with students and on student advocacy. Students need adults within the schools to advocate for them and provide resources, and that is what I intend to do in my new role at BHS.
