Screencasting: creating a video recording of what is displayed on your screen while you narrate.
This is often useful when doing a presentation slideshow that you will narrate over.
While there are a lot of screencasting tools available, and everyone has a favorite, my current favorite is Nimbus: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/nimbus
After you add the extension to Chrome, check the video for an overview.
Another great screencasting tool is Loom (you can sign in with your Google login): www.loom.com Loom is quickly replacing Nimbus as my favorite screencasting tool.
Click the Nimbus icon to start:
Choose Record Video
For a presentation, make sure Tab is selected at the bottom
Turn on the following buttons:
Record Mic Sound
Record Tab Sound (in case you have a video in your presentation)
Record Webcam (to make yourself visible at the beginning of the recording before you click the present button)
When the recording is done, click the Nimbus icon, then Stop Recording
Preview the recording, then select Save Video to download the video
Upload the video to your Website folder in Google Drive (or a Public shared folder), then you can share the video with your students via Google Classroom or by link.
One of the perks of creating your presentation in Google Slides is that you have the option to turn on Closed Captions and the closed captions will create on your Google Slide presentation as you talk. This video gives a great example of the tool and how to use it beginning at 1:45
