Multiple pathways are available for History, Math, and Science in middle school, with different classes students could encounter. We aim to allow the most challenging course of study possible while following the proper sequence and without sacrificing foundational content knowledge. Course Description: With guidance from instructors, students will select and begin instruction on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. No experience is necessary. Musical topics are introduced such as reading, music notation, analyzing and evaluating music, as well as composing and improvising simple melodies. Students will present two concerts and perform at VBODA Concert Assessment. Students will be required to purchase a uniform polo for our concerts. Students will need solid black pants and solid black shoes (purchased on their own) for the concerts.

Course Description: This class will teach students proper vocal technique for different styles of music, begin the process of reading music, and learn singing standards such as matching pitch, unison singing and some 2 part harmony. Course Description: Students will learn to use the elements of art and the principles of design. They will investigate a variety of experiences and concepts. Students will also explore two and three dimensional art using a variety of expressive and technical approaches.
Course Description: This course provides an overview of computer applications as a system. Students use a variety of applications including word processing, spreadsheet, organization, presentation, web design, digital photography, and photo editing. Beginner and mid-level functions are incorporated into assignments. Students will conduct research using the Internet as a tool and will complete a beginner level webquest. The course also reviews basic keyboarding with 1-2 typing assessments.
Course Description: Students use the engineering design process to guide them through various hands-on activities and projects, utilizing safe use of tools, materials and techniques to solve problems. Students explore their relationship to technology and engineering, and how technology affects the world around them, as well as careers in the fields of technology and engineering.
Course Description: Students will listen to, perform and create music in various styles, while developing the music literacy necessary for participation in an ensemble should they choose to participate in band, chorus or orchestra in the following school year. Students will use a variety of music technology tools to create their own music.
Course Description: In this course students explore people, places, and societies of the contemporary world. Students learn what culture is and how it shapes our lives while comparing their own experiences to those of other cultures. Through interactive activities, they examine how individuals and groups influence historical and modern events and how culture, including language, connects communities around the world.
Course Description: Students will explore health and medical sciences careers and related clusters, participate in interactive activities, and receive an overview of the healthcare industry. Course content includes the criteria for entering various healthcare careers. Students gain communication, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
Course Description: Students will begin to explore the studies of nutrition and wellness, food preparation, relationships, personal environments, textiles, sewing and construction skills, consumer resources, and child development and care.
Course Description: Students will begin to explore the studies of plant and animal science topics, conservation of natural resources, and introductory woodworking skills including safety and tool identification. This course will provide an introduction to leadership skills through the study of the FFA organization, and students will participate in the PMS FFA chapter.
Course Description: Students will be exposed to computer science as a means of computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development, and will convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society.
