Read Aloud Activity

by Kevin Henkes

Check out this video that consists of a read aloud of the book, “Chester’s Way” .

Hands-On Activity

Book Reflection

  1. First, you will ask your child what their favorite part of the book was and you will have them draw what they think that part of the book looked like on the empty page.
  2. Second, you will then write these words on your child's paper while they follow along, “When I meet a new friend I will.”
  3. Then, you will read these words to your child and ask for their response.
  4. Last, you will record their response in order to finish the sentence while your child follows along.

Art Activity

Materials needed:

  • Several different colors of construction paper some with pre-drawn lines (for cutting) and some without pre-drawn lines scissors
  • Glue or tape (I have found that tape works better unless you use tacky glue).

DisCussion Questions

Ask your children about a time when they have been kind to themselves or others. Ask them Why they were kind and how they were kind. Discuss for as long as they would like. Don’t make them feel bad if they do not know of a time they have been kind, give them some situations they could be kind in.
