Some of these suggestions may very well overlap with each other. As an example a group presentation after researching a topic could be considered within 3 of these categories. These are ideas to help the process of module and activity creation within the LC block model.
Group Activities
Examples within block teaching:
Developing a pitch for a potential client.
Poster presentation
Creation of content / quizzes for other groups to attempt
Research Activity
Examples within block teaching:
Mini literature review
Creation of theoretical summary.
Transposition of journal article into another form
Class Discussion / Debate
Examples within block teaching:
Create for and against position statements the students need to debate
Discussion of case studies
Consider the theory and how it compares to any real experiences
Gamification - Knowledge Check
Examples within block teaching:
Individual quiz (Kahoot/Nearpod/Vevox) to check understanding or pre-existing knowledge
Group quiz. Working in teams they have to research the answers (set questions well above the level expected)
Students create quiz questions and test fellow students
Assessment Task
Examples within block teaching:
Research and writing elements in class
Creating real world scenarios that need to be undertaken (Presentation, Pitch, Group effort, problem solving an issue in a time limit).
Reflective tasks and written pieces regarding the other class activities. Reflective journal looking at personal standing before the taught material, then expansion of that at the end of the module.
Presentations
Examples within block teaching:
Group work/research put together in the space of the first 2 hours of a session then presented during the 2nd half of a session
Individual Pecha Kucha (lightning talks) around a theme or interest
Poster presentations, Create displays for (real or fictional) event.
Real World Context
Examples within block teaching:
Work with local businesses to help solve a problem (this could be something that the business has found in the past but is offering as an example, it could be a live, time sensitive problem).
Divide the class into groups and each represents a part of the problem. In business for example supply chain management. In computing, creating an object but teams have certain areas that then need to be put together later.
Case Studies, drip feed scenarios that allows for decision making to be demonstrated
