Engaging with Fellowship
Descriptor 1 - Associate Fellow - is relevant to those staff that do not engage in the full spectrum of activities that might define academic or academic related practice, but who have a specific role in teaching and supporting HE learning. Such individuals, whatever their role or status, are not able to evidence engagement and expertise in all Dimensions of the PSF. The Descriptor is designed to be flexible and reflect the variety of different combinations of activities that HE teaching and learning may include.Â
The APEX Associate Fellowship Pathway is for academic and support staff with limited teaching roles. Typically you may be a PhD student, a post-doctoral researcher or a PTHP lecturer with limited teaching responsibilities. You may be an educational technologist, a learning support tutor, a technician or member of the library staff.
Whatever your role, the key requirement is to provide evidence of effectiveness in relation to teaching or learning support.
Typical Profile of an Associate Fellow D1:
Early career researchers with some teaching responsibilities
Staff new to teaching or those with part-time responsibilities
Learning technologists, learning support tutors, student advisors, learning resource, library staff, careers advisors
Staff you undertake demonstrator roles with some teaching related activity
Experienced staff in relevant professional areas who support learning and teaching
Fellowship Criteria (D1)
Associate Fellows need to demonstrate engagement with two Areas of Activity that are relevant to your role, and as a minimum that you can demonstrate an understanding of how learners learn, generally and within specific subjects (K1), demonstrate approaches to teaching and/or supporting learning, appropriate for subjects and level of study (K2) and evidence critical evaluation as a basis for effective practice (K3). As APEX also relates to the UoP context, you need to show how your practice also contributes to wider education priorities at the University and aligns to Blended and Connected Learning and the University’s focus on Teach Well, Consistently well through the use of active blended learning (ABL).
Colleagues applying for Associate Fellow are also asked to demonstrate how they respect respect individual learners and diverse groups of learners (V1) and use scholarship, or research, or professional learning, or other evidence-informed approaches as a basis for effective practice (V3).
Descriptor 1 is suitable for individuals whose practice enables them to evidence some Dimensions. Effectiveness of practice in teaching and/or support of learning is demonstrated through evidence of:Â
