1st Commandment “I am the Lord your God, you shall not have other gods besides me.”
Be able to explain what this commandment means in your own words
When we pray, we are lifting our minds and hearts to God.
We pray to God, Jesus, Mary and all of the saints.
2nd Commandment- “You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.”
Be able to explain what the commandment means in your own words.
In vain means “for no good reason.”
We should never use God’s name in anger or to curse.
We should respect all holy people, places and things (Ex: rosaries, religious statues, the crucifix, etc).
3rd Commandment- “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.”
In early times, the Sabbath was on a Saturday, but early Christians started to celebrate on Sunday, since Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.
We keep the Lord ’s Day holy by going to mass, resting and praying.
We also celebrate mass on holy days of obligation. Some examples are:
Christmas
All Saints Day
Immaculate Conception
