Kids always ask me, "Do you like to read?" and I almost always respond in the affirmative. But I always qualify that with the fact that I like to read newspapers, books, magazines and more. It's good to read a variety of formats and to get information that is fun to read but also to learn from what you read. You can learn about things happening around the world, around the country or around the corner from a daily newspaper. You can see someone's life through their eyes as you read an autobiography. There are so many ways to learn through reading.
Seniors are getting restless and we've only had one snow day, ahhh, the joys of second semester! The Library currently has two displays up, one is the carry over from February with some romance novels, and the other is showcasing women in history and science for National Women's History month.
We have added a few titles to our shelves, all are gifts or donations. Mrs Bello gave us three books on drawing Manga, and a copy of Pachinko by Min Jin Lee which is on the list of books for Mr Correale's senior project, cool! We also have some new books from Ms Touet who gets them for reviewing them online. Nemesis by Brendan Reichs, Trusting you and other lies by Nicole Williams and The life fantastic by Lisa Ketchum, were extras given to her so she's giving them to you!
I am really looking forward to reading some new titles by favorite authors this spring. Julie Berry has a new book out called Lovely War and it's gotten some great reviews. Stacey Lee's newest title, The Downstairs Girl is coming out in August. I'm hoping to get an ARC from her publisher -- fingers crossed--!
I'm currently reading Becoming by Michelle Obama and it's so good! I highly recommend it to all.
More later :)

Happy New Year!
So what fun things did you do over Christmas Vacation? I headed to several beaches on the north shore to chill out (literally! Some days it was soooo cold!) and to just see what the sea had washed up on the sand. I love the sea. If you've seen my desk you know that already.
Did you read any books over vacation? I know many of you had reading assignments, but what about books for fun?
My TBR (To Be Read) pile is almost as tall as, well....me! I got two great books for Christmas, Becoming by Michelle Obama and The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World by Stephen L. Brusatte, both of which I am really looking forward to reading. But I still have books to finish from 2018. Like Moby Dick, that one's a long one and I can only read one chapter at a time. Still, it's worth reading. I also have some YA sequels and companion books to read, and I'm reading two books to write reviews for. Not an easy task, especially when I don't really enjoy the books. Not easy to write reviews for books you like, even harder to write them for books you don't like...
Come by and tell me what your read over vacation!

Christmas Holiday break begins at noon tomorrow with the end of classes and the beginning of our Faculty Christmas Party!
Looking forward to reading some great books over break. Lots of nonfiction -- histories, science...maybe some YA!
What do you plan to read over vacation?

This past weekend was the 7th annual Boston Teen Author Festival in Cambridge. Over 30 Young Adult authors were in town for an all day event that was held at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School and the Cambridge Public Library.
It was a very diverse group of authors, from all different backgrounds, cultures and more.
The authors attending this year were:
Phew, that's a lot of authors! Some of them are, or have been on bestsellers lists, and some may be on one soon! I've bolded the ones who I saw at panels talking about their books and backgrounds. It was a fun day.
This was my third BTAF and I believe that this year I saw more teens than ever before. It seems that most of the attendees are adults--teachers, librarians, readers...it was nice to see more kids come to this event.
I post information around the Library about this and other events near us so come by and take a look, or better yet, ask me!!

Have you ever met an author at a bookstore?
I met my first author when I was a teen, it was purely by chance. I was out shopping at Jordan Marsh with my mom and we saw a gentleman signing books. I recognized the books, they were about Massachusetts and New England history. It was Edward Rowe Snow! You probably don't know that name, but your parents or grandparents might recognize it. Mr. Snow wrote several collections of real-life stories about pirates and sea monsters, storms and ghosts, along with histories about lighthouses and islands off New England. So much history and he wrote them in such a way that the reader felt like we were along side him on these adventures. Mr. Snow was also known as the Flying Santa.
My mom bought me his newest book, Supernatural Mysteries and Other Tales, and he not only signed it, he drew a picture of a whale and a sea monster. I was so excited. I still have that book today and it's one of my most treasured memories.
If you would like to learn more about Edward Rowe Snow aka The Flying Santa, here is a wonderful essay from the Boston Athenaeum: Click here
Maybe I will tell you about meeting a very famous actress...she supposedly kept America going through the Depression!
