Dear Nursery B Parents,
It was a short, fun, and busy week in Nursery B!
We read our first anti-racist read-aloud, Mixed: A Colorful Story by Arree Chung. The children’s big takeaway was: “When the colors were together, they were very happy.”
We also began a mini study on apples. After reading Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Wallace, we learned that an orchard is a special farm where many apple trees are planted, and that apples come in a variety of colors, sizes, and tastes. Together, we examined the parts of a real apple—skin, flesh, core, seeds, stem, and leaves.
As we continued exploring, the children began creating apple part collages. They used counting skills to add real apple seeds to the core of their crafted apples. This activity also supported their fine motor development, as they used the small muscles in their hands to carefully place the seeds and paper apple parts. We look forward to sharing their final products soon!
The children also graphed their favorite apples—be sure to check out our Apple Graph in the photo section! Next, we plan to extend this study with two more activities: apple tasting (using three or four different types of apples) and our first cooking project—homemade applesauce! For these, we will need some help from our class parents. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know who the assigned parents are, so please reach out if you’re available.
Finally, we are almost finished with the children’s narratives for our class rules, which we’ll be sharing with you soon
