About

vision

In 2019, LAUSD chose Polytechnic High School as one of 17 LAUSD schools to receive the distinction as a community school. As proud as we are to have received this distinction, it simply confirmed what we have always known about our school. Our staff is deeply committed to not just the academic well-being of our students, but we are equally passionate about ensuring our students and their families are emotionally, mentally, and physically well. Our commitment to these values is demonstrated in the multiple programs and resources we have available to our school community, but more importantly, it is exemplified through our compassionate and hard-working staff who work tirelessly to put students and their families first. Now as an official community school, we can not only maintain but expand our vision to take better care of our community, and we hope the people, programs, and resources we continue offering support your efforts to be well and belong. Welcome home, Parrots, to your community school!

We believe in equity. Poly is committed to offering our students and families accessible, quality resources and programs that support our community's mental, physical, and academic well-being. As Maslow's 'Hierarchy of Needs" indicates, a person's physiological needs along with their need for love, safety, and belonging must be met in order for a person to function at optimal levels and reach "self-actualization." In line with this philosophy, Poly seeks to be a hub of resources and services that will help meet these needs so all Parrots can become the best version of themselves.
We believe family is the foundation of our community. In our engagement efforts, we seek to respect the rich voices and culture that make up our community. In listening to these voices, we hope to provide relevant and appropriate programs  and resources that help make our families feel connected to our school, connected to each other,  and most importantly, valued and supported as they pursue pathways to wellness and success.

We believe our students deserve exciting experiences and tailored learning opportunities that will enhance and support their current learning goals. We also want students to have opportunities to discover and explore their passions, so that's why Poly seeks to offer exciting summer and after school programs where they can do exactly that. Whether it's a summer STEM program students seek, or an after-school DJ club, we have many options available for our students, and we hope to continue expanding these offerings with every new school year.

We believe in authentic collaboration grounded in trust and collegiality. We will maintain collaborative systems to effectively serve our community such as Small Learning Communities that help provide a more personalized education for each student, PACT, which has been pivotal in equipping teachers with socio-emotional support strategies, Governance, and SSPT. These systems problem solve and implement best practices to ensure our students and families have what they need to succeed. We will also examine and reflect upon areas needing improvement to ensure quality of service and to model lifelong learning practices.
