Spotlight is an easy-to-use, simple form of directing that displays characters in containers that slide in and out of the screen.
It was primarily designed to be a straightforward and quick way to write stories. For example, spotlight directing does not require spot placing any elements on the screen. The elements are already generated automatically. The main focus when creating stories in spotlight is the dialog and/or narration.
To use spotlight, we have to turn this form of directing 'on' in our code by setting the format. Once this format is set, the story will remain in that format until it is changed to something else.
The syntax of setting a story's directing format in spotlight is as follows:
set format spotlight
Spotlight is a great tool for creating stories quickly. It automatically generates the placements of everything on a screen so that we can focus on the dialogue and narration of a story. After this lesson, we'll go over more details about how spotlight works and we'll walk through creating a scene in spotlight step-by-step.
Later on in our course, we'll learn about another format called "cinematic" that is a more complex version of directing. You are able to switch back and forth between these formats in a story as you please, by setting the format as we did above.
