The Paws of Valentine’s Day

“Happy Valentine's Day, my lovies! Today will be a day full of love!” Mom said, waking both of us up from our morning nap. “I personally think that when you get married, the person you married will always be your valentine until the end of time.” Dad said to Mom lovingly. Milan was not in my litter, so possibly we could be valentines. But did I have “Love” for Milan? No, that would never possibly happen. Milan was just my pal for playing, walking, talking, and every other thing. But not for “Love.” “Pssssst, Milan, what should we do for valentines day?” “No idea, but I heard that it was all about love and love and love.” Milan replied. “I also heard that you need to find a person or dog to be your valentine.” I said. “What is a valentine?” Milan asked. “Personally, I have no idea.” “So, my lovies, what shall we do today?” Mom asked. “How about we go on an HOUR walk to the park?” We both reasoned at the same time. I stopped and stared at him. He stopped and stared at me. “Maybe you two are meant to be together!” Dad said, smiling. We stared at each other harder. How could we be together? We were always fighting. “Anyway, should we go to the store and buy some Valentine's treats?” Our ears both perked up. Treats? A feast like Thanksgiving? Presents? More presents? Cake? Dad grabbed our leashes and we were yipping and yapping all over him like a swarm of bees with their queen. “Settle down! Settle down! Quiet! QUIET!” Dad shouted. We tried as hard as we could to glue our snouts shut, but we could hardly be contained. We set out on the adventure, us both wondering where we were going. As we walked and walked and walked and smelled and smelled and smelled, we twisted and turned to go to some weird building. It was decorated with some weird colors and some weird shapes. There were also more weird colors and shapes inside the building. In the building were LOTS of people! I whimpered at the sight of it. “Aw, Myrana, don’t worry! This store will have lots of treats and friendly people!” Mom said, soothing me. I perked up when Mom said “Treats.” My favorite word! Treats inside the building? Hard to believe, but I’ll take it! I strained against my leash, wanting to get inside the “Building with weird colors and shapes and with yummy treats.” As soon as we walked through the door, I caught a HUGE whiff of many delicious treats and goodies.
