The goal of this course is to provide a foundation of technology skills in a variety of programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Google Classroom. This course will provide students with a skillset that can be transferred seamlessly, into courses from all curricular areas. Completion of the course will result in students earning one or more MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certifications. (1/2 year)
Hospitality and tourism are topics that students can relate to and make their own. This course will teach students about travel, tourism, lodging and food-service industries. It will also help them develop skills they need to succeed in their careers. Students will learn that success in hospitality and tourism, like success in any career field, also requires responsibility, self-management, leadership and integrity. This course meets every day for one semester (½ year).
This course is an introduction to the Stock Market and the world of investing. This is an exciting course that allows the student to develop a foundation of investing and financial planning skills. ETFs, mutual funds, on-line trading, selling short, and the analysis of various stock market statistics and fundamentals are a few of the topics covered. Taxation will include a study of the US tax system and how it plays a role in investing. Various stock market games and simulations will be played. The course meets every day for one semester (½ year).
This course gives an excellent overview of the American Legal System. Students will study true legal situations that show how business and personal law impact all. Real estate, family, wills, and other areas of law will be covered. Both criminal and civil trial procedures will be covered. Students will be given a hands-on approach to trials by playing the role of lawyer and witness in mock trial role-play activities and
competitions utilizing the simulated courtroom. Students will be eligible to participate in the Moot Court Club in the spring semester of this course. Students will learn critical thinking, reasoning and arguing skills (full year).
