To enhance the effectiveness of our GE coursebooks, we have developed school-based materials that complement the curriculum. There is a Task Book and a Writing Portfolio to go with each module.
The Taskbooks provide extra practices on vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension.
The Writing Portfolios provide mentor texts that illustrate language and structural features of each text-type as inputs. Students practise process writing that comprises brainstorming and planning with graphic organizers, drafting and publishing. In this way, students continually refine their writing skills, leading to continuous improvement in their writing abilities.
In this English class, our students collaborated to make ice cream. They followed instructions, measured ingredients, and worked as a team. After enjoying their delicious treat, they wrote recounts of the lesson highlights. Each student described the process, flavors, and the joy they felt. It was a fantastic opportunity to practise language skills. Kudos to our budding writers for their creativity as they learnt to express their ideas. Special thanks to our volunteer parents for helping out in a memorable lesson that sparked our students’ love for English.
Students were practising superlatives and comparatives in this inter-class competition. We were happy to spot students who set some incredible records this year!
As digital payment methods are becoming more prevalent in real life, this shopping activity provided our students an opportunity to sharpen their numeracy skills. Students were practising 'How much is/ are ..., please' and 'They're/ It's ... dollars' while having fun making purchases with bills they created.
How much is that pink notebook, please?
And may I have a look at that fancy dress, please?
It is equally enjoyable for students to run game booths as well as participate in a variety of language games.
We organize periodic interclass events that test students' grammar and reading skills. Everyone is so enthusiastic to earn points for their class while enjoying some games of excitement and friendly competition!
